(#013) Wynton Marsalis at the Barbican

Just back from London, where I saw Wynton Marsalis and the Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra perform with the London Symphony Orchestra at the Barbican. A humbling experience.

I’ve admired Mr. Marsalis for years—listening on repeat to a vast range of his work, and even attempting to transpose and emulate some of his phrases on my trumpet.

But hearing him live reinforced my sense that his legacy—his ability to transcend genres, periods, art forms, and in fact art itself—is so deeply…

earned.

Something many public figures of our time, in both politics and popular culture, seem to be uninterested in.
